A Florida woman was arrested this week in Charlotte County following allegations of sexual activity involving her family dog. Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was taken into custody on Tuesday after her estranged husband provided home surveillance footage to investigators, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest was announced by the sheriff's office on Wednesday, detailing a case that began with social media posts earlier in the month.

The investigation commenced after Erik Nummerdor, Ms. Nummerdor's estranged husband, posted allegations on Facebook on September 11. These posts included claims of photographic and video evidence of the alleged conduct. Detectives reviewed the social media content and accompanying comments, prompting an interview with Erik Nummerdor on September 14. During this interview, he informed investigators that he had installed two surveillance cameras inside the couple's residence. One camera, he stated, was placed in his bedroom to identify who had been taking money from a coin container. He described this camera as visible, with a blinking red light, and asserted that all household members were aware of its presence. The device reportedly recorded continuously, overwriting older footage as needed.
Erik Nummerdor told investigators that while reviewing the recordings, he discovered footage depicting his wife and the family dog, identified as Ranger. He provided screenshots from these recordings and granted authorities access to a laptop containing the surveillance files. According to an arrest affidavit, the images reviewed by a detective appeared consistent with sexual activity. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office confirmed that its evidence was derived from surveillance equipment located inside the home.
On September 15, detectives questioned Malia Nummerdor and presented her with the footage. She acknowledged being the woman depicted in the recording and identified the animal as her pet. However, she denied engaging in sexual contact with the dog, disputing the investigators' characterization of the events shown. The sheriff’s office stated that her explanations were considered inconsistent by investigators. Following this, Ms. Nummerdor requested an attorney, at which point the interview concluded.
Ms. Nummerdor also offered a differing account regarding the surveillance cameras. She alleged that the cameras had been installed without her knowledge. Furthermore, she claimed that her estranged husband had accessed her social media accounts to publish images and videos. She stated that the recordings in question were made in 2024 and that Erik Nummerdor had previously threatened her with them. Attempts to reach Erik Nummerdor for comment were not immediately successful. The sheriff's announcement did not specify the exact date when the surveillance footage was recorded.
Sheriff Bill Prummell addressed the public regarding the case in Wednesday's statement, condemning the alleged actions. "No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct," Prummell stated, expressing his struggle to find words for the nature of the allegations. He affirmed the commitment of authorities to act decisively when such allegations arise within Charlotte County.
Malia Nummerdor was arrested in Port Charlotte. She faces charges of sexual activity involving animals, which is classified as a second-degree felony under Florida law. She was being held at the Charlotte County Jail, with her bond set at $35,000, according to the agency's statement. As with all criminal charges, the allegations are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The legal proceedings are expected to continue as the investigation unfolds.
