TUCSON, ARIZONA – Luke Daley, a 37-year-old man previously detained in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, was arrested again on September 30, 2026, and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. Authorities have clarified that this latest arrest is unrelated to the ongoing investigation into Ms. Guthrie’s whereabouts, eight months after she vanished from her Tucson residence.

Ms. Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson. The circumstances of her abduction remain largely unknown to the public, and no suspects have been formally identified by investigators. Her case has drawn national attention due to her being the mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Daley’s booking, with a spokesperson stating, “Luke Daley was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on September 30, 2026. This is unrelated to the Nancy Guthrie case.” This statement aims to distinguish Daley’s current legal troubles from the high-profile missing person investigation.
Daley first came into public view regarding the Guthrie case on February 13. On that day, law enforcement officers stopped him in the parking lot of a Culver’s restaurant, located approximately two miles from Ms. Guthrie’s residence. Simultaneously, officers conducted a raid on his mother’s home as part of their kidnapping investigation. However, Daley was released within hours of his detention, and no charges were filed against him in connection with Ms. Guthrie’s disappearance.
Following his release in February, Daley’s attorney, Chris Scileppi, issued a statement defending his client. Scileppi asserted, "Mr. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping." He further conveyed that both Mr. Daley and his mother shared the community’s hope for Ms. Guthrie’s safe return, stating, “Like the entire Tucson community, both Mr. Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed.”
The current arrest of Daley, occurring more than seven months after his initial brief detention, stems from pre-existing legal issues. Daley possesses a lengthy criminal record, which includes prior felony convictions. At the time of his September 30 booking, he already faced pending court cases involving drug and firearm charges. Furthermore, he was serving probation in a separate case related to earlier drug and weapons violations. Prosecutors have since petitioned a court to revoke his probation in that earlier case, indicating a potential escalation of his legal challenges.
Meanwhile, the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has yielded few public breakthroughs. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in her abduction. Nest doorbell camera footage from around the time of her disappearance reportedly captured a masked intruder at her doorstep, but this individual remains at large.
The Guthrie family has received two notes through online tip submission forms set up for media outlets, both claiming to be from her kidnappers. One note reportedly demanded a ransom, while the other made the unconfirmed claim that Ms. Guthrie had died unexpectedly. Investigators have not identified the senders of these notes, nor have they confirmed the authenticity of the claims made within them.
A substantial combined reward, exceeding $1.2 million, has been offered for information that leads to Ms. Guthrie’s whereabouts or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance. Despite the significant incentive, the reward remains unclaimed. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information pertinent to Ms. Guthrie’s case to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or Tucson’s Crime Stoppers affiliate at 520-88-CRIME. The community remains hopeful for answers in the case of the missing 84-year-old.
