Investigators identified Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, as the individual who fatally shot his wife, Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and their six children before taking his own life. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including the motive.

The tragic discovery was made after emergency crews responded to reports of smoke emanating from the family’s residence on Riverside Trail near Grand Haven. Initial reports of smoke earlier on a Friday had not revealed an active fire. However, later that same day, emergency personnel returned to the scene following additional reports and subsequently found the deceased family members inside the home.
Autopsies conducted by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that all eight individuals died from gunshot wounds. Kristopher Karolkiewicz’s death was ruled a suicide, while the deaths of Amanda Karolkiewicz and their six children were classified as homicides. The children included four boys, aged 5, 11, 12, and 15, along with two 11-year-old adopted girls. Authorities have not publicly released the names of the children.

Kristopher Karolkiewicz’s professional background includes working as a national vice president of sales and marketing for the American Heart Association. According to the organization, he held this position from September 2023 until earlier this month, working remotely for its national headquarters. In the wake of the deaths, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Amanda’s parents with expenses. Organizers of the fundraiser have stated that any remaining funds will be allocated to create a scholarship in memory of the Karolkiewicz children. As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had raised nearly $18,000, reflecting community support.
