New Jersey Governor Sherrill announced that a software error within the state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) system resulted in thousands of noncitizens being registered to vote. The glitch allowed individuals ineligible to vote to be added to the voter rolls.
According to the Governor, more than 6,000 noncitizens were registered due to this system malfunction. Of those registered, approximately 400 noncitizens ultimately cast ballots in New Jersey elections.
State officials are now working to remove these noncitizens from the voter rolls following the discovery of the software issue. This is a developing story and will be updated as details emerge.
