Publicly, President Trump was seen boarding an older Boeing 747-8, a presidential aircraft donated by Qatar and modified for his use, at an airport in Ankara. He had previously announced his intention to return on an older presidential aircraft "for old time’s sake," a statement that now appears to have been part of the broader deception.
However, behind the scenes, a different plan was executed. President Trump was covertly moved from the publicly boarded aircraft using equipment typically associated with catering operations. A catering truck, complete with a container raised to the aircraft's level, was utilized to transfer President Trump to a smaller Air Force C-32A aircraft. Video footage reportedly obtained by The Washington Post depicted a man in a suit entering the catering truck's cab before the container was elevated, remaining in position for several minutes before being lowered and driven away. A person in a suit was subsequently seen exiting the truck and boarding the C-32A.
To further maintain the illusion and ensure the smaller aircraft's flight appeared routine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was reportedly observed separately boarding the C-32A using external stairs. Meanwhile, journalists traveling with the presidential entourage were directed to board the older 747-8, believing President Trump was aboard. White House staff reportedly instructed these members of the press to close their window shades during the flight. This decoy aircraft then proceeded to use the Air Traffic Control designation "Air Force One," a call sign typically reserved exclusively for an Air Force aircraft carrying the President.
The actual aircraft carrying President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, the C-32A, reportedly flew under the call sign “Reach 18,” or “RCH18.” "Reach" call signs are generally associated with military transportation flights for personnel or equipment, as noted by the Daily Mail. Upon arrival in the United Kingdom, President Trump reportedly transferred back from the C-32A to the older presidential aircraft, from which he was then publicly seen descending the stairs, completing the elaborate ruse designed to conceal his true travel path.
This extraordinary security measure highlights heightened concerns regarding potential threats from Iran, particularly amidst renewed US military strikes against the nation and the potential for retaliation targeting American leadership.
