President Donald Trump engaged in a fresh round of criticism against Fox News this week, using his Truth Social platform to voice dissatisfaction with the network's programming choices and perceived bias. His posts, made on Tuesday and Sunday, targeted specific anchors, commentators, and the network's overall approach to covering political candidates and Republican events.
"Our people want to see our Rallies, and reports on our Rallies, on FoxNews, or they will very quickly stop watching (like I am doing right now!)" President Donald Trump, Truth Social.
On Tuesday, President Trump began his series of posts by referencing a Fox News broadcast that he stated was airing as he typed. He specifically called out a "long form" interview with Dan Osborn, who is challenging Nebraska Republican Senator Pete Ricketts. President Trump questioned the network's decision, writing, "FoxNews is long form interviewing the sleazebag, Dan Osborn, right now, who is running against our GREAT Republican Senator, Pete Ricketts, from Nebraska. Why are they doing this??? The ‘other side’ doesn’t give our people any positive exposure or airtime."
He continued his criticism by naming Fox anchor Martha MacCallum and referencing an interview she conducted with a candidate identified as El-Sayed. President Trump alleged that MacCallum's interview with El-Sayed was overly lenient, contrasting it with how he believes she treats him. "All they talk about is Dumocrat Jihadists like El-Sayed, with his softball interview by Martha MacCallum, and the like. She never interviews me like that," he stated.
President Trump broadened his critique to the network's overall airtime allocation. He contended that Fox News dedicates more time to "Jihadist and Dumocrat candidates" than to "good old fashioned Republicans." He added, "FoxNews spends more time covering the Jihadist and Dumocrat candidates than they do the good old fashioned Republicans, the people that have saved America, and are making it great again." He concluded this point by asserting that Fox News had "totally lost their way," claiming, "Fox is promoting the Dumocrats, not the Republicans and MAGA."
Another point of contention for President Trump was the network's coverage of his rallies. He claimed that while other outlets broadcast footage of his "record breaking" rallies the morning after, Fox News does not. "They don’t show my record breaking Rallies the morning after, but others do, and that’s what MAGA is watching," he wrote. He also made a personal claim about his electoral success, stating, "It is a miracle that I won, the last by a landslide, three Presidential Races!"
The dispute began earlier, on Sunday, when President Trump posted about "Fox & Friends" allegedly skipping coverage of his Saturday night rally in Ohio, as well as events in Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma from the preceding two days. "Sad to see that Fox & Friends (Sunday) is not covering our packed house and incredibly enthusiastic (beyond!) Rally that took place in Ohio last night, or the ones in Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma over the past two days," he posted. He described these rallies as "sold out, with thousands of people trying to get in, and are absolutely phenomenal, better than ever!" He added that these events were "representative of what is really happening with our great Republican Party."
President Trump warned that the perceived lack of supportive coverage could lead to a decline in viewership. He stated that his supporters expect to see his rallies covered on Fox News, or they "will very quickly stop watching (like I am doing right now!)." He also named commentator Jessica Tarlov, expressing strong disapproval: "We don’t like stupid Jessica Tarlov, and all of the others, that are forced down MAGA’S throats."
The President also raised questions about the decision-making process within Fox News, mentioning Maria Bartiromo. "Who makes these decisions at FoxNews? Probably the same loser that fired the great Maria Bartiromo because she complained about not being allowed to cover ‘TRUMP.’ She’ll end up bigger and better than ever – watch!" he wrote.
President Trump concluded his series of posts with a stark warning about the network's future ratings, referencing past challenges. "Cover our ‘happenings,’ and not the opposition to Greatness for America, or FoxNews will soon have the ratings of FAKE NEWS CNN or MSNOW (MSDNC). Remember, Fox tried this act once before, and almost went out of business (and always right before an election!). That can happen again!" he warned.
These Truth Social posts from President Trump highlight an ongoing tension between a prominent conservative media outlet and a leading figure within the Republican Party. His criticisms, spanning specific interviews, guest selections, and rally coverage, underscore his continued engagement with and scrutiny of media organizations he perceives as unsupportive or unfair.
