A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder after a dispute over an age-restricted tobacco product escalated into a fatal stabbing at a Classic Mart & 420 Shop in San Antonio, Texas. Police and court records identify the suspect as Samuel Davis, who is accused of stabbing 25-year-old Sanad Faisal Al Reseq multiple times inside the store located on the 4000 block of Medical Drive near Fairhaven Street.
Authorities were dispatched to the convenience store shortly after 1 a.m. following initial reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Al Reseq suffering from multiple stab wounds, not gunshot injuries. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed Al Reseq's death was a homicide caused by sharp force injuries to the chest, pronouncing him dead at the scene.
According to an arrest affidavit, the incident began when the suspect entered the store and became involved in a verbal altercation with Al Reseq, an employee. Investigators, using surveillance footage from inside the business and witness statements, determined that the confrontation escalated. Police allege that Davis produced a knife during the altercation and stabbed the employee multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot.
Following the identification of Davis as a suspect, law enforcement located him at a nearby apartment complex. Officers surrounded the area, and Davis was taken into custody without further incident after being confronted. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled for a pre-indictment hearing later this month. As of now, Davis is the only individual charged in connection with the case, though officials have stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing as additional evidence is reviewed.
Local reporting and court documents indicate the dispute centered on the refusal to sell a 99-cent tobacco product to Davis due to his age, as he was underage. This refusal reportedly led to the fatal confrontation.
The Classic Mart & 420 Shop has a history of police calls for service. According to records from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) cited by Informing News, officers have responded to dozens of incidents at the location in recent years. These calls include reports of disturbances, assaults, thefts, and incidents involving weapons. Authorities have not yet indicated whether any of these prior calls are directly connected to Friday’s fatal stabbing.
In the aftermath of the attack, the business was closed, and community members, including family and friends, gathered for a candlelight vigil outside the store to mourn Al Reseq. Relatives and regular patrons described the victim as a well-known and respected employee who had worked at the store for several years. His cousin, who owns the business, shared that Al Reseq was working his final shift before planning to reunite with his father for the first time in a decade.
The ongoing investigation is reviewing additional evidence, including surveillance video, forensic findings, and further witness interviews. Prosecutors will determine if additional charges or updates are warranted as the case proceeds through the legal system.
