U.S. Representative Max Miller (R-OH) is currently facing allegations of physical abuse from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno. These claims, which detail multiple alleged physical confrontations during their marriage, have surfaced in court filings and recent reports as Moreno seeks modifications to the couple’s custody arrangement for their two-year-old daughter. The Bay Village Police Department has confirmed an ongoing investigation related to a child abuse report connected to one of the alleged incidents.
According to reports, Moreno has accused Congressman Miller of "dangerous physical behavior" in the presence of their child. The most recent alleged incident reportedly occurred on February 1 during a custody exchange at Miller’s Ohio residence. Moreno claims that during this encounter, the congressman grabbed and struck her in front of their daughter. Court filings and photographs reviewed by the Daily Mail allegedly show bruising on Moreno’s arm, elbow, and torso following this confrontation. Bay Village Police officers responded to a report of child abuse linked to this incident, and the department stated that the investigation remains open.
An earlier alleged incident reportedly took place on June 9, 2024. During an argument inside the couple’s Ohio home, Miller allegedly threw a pot of boiling water while their infant daughter was nearby. Sources cited in the report claimed that some of the hot water struck Moreno’s chest during the altercation. Moreno reportedly documented injuries from this incident with photographs. Following the boiling water incident, a handwritten letter allegedly penned by Miller included repeated apologies and expressions of guilt, though it reportedly did not explicitly admit to physical abuse. The letter, reviewed by reporters, allegedly contained the statement, "I’m sorry I failed you and Ruth," referring to their daughter, while discussing the deterioration of their relationship and family situation.
The couple married in August 2022 at President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf club, with President Trump attending the ceremony. Miller filed for divorce two years later, and their divorce settlement was finalized in June 2025. The settlement included joint custody of their daughter and child support payments totaling $2,500 per month. Emily Moreno’s attorney has reportedly stated that photographic evidence and court records support her allegations and contradict years of denials regarding claims of abuse and violent behavior.
In response to the allegations, Adam Brown, Congressman Miller’s attorney, has denied all claims against his client. Brown described the accusations as false and indicated that evidence rebutting these claims would be provided. This is not the first time Congressman Miller has faced such accusations; former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham previously alleged physical assault by Miller during their past relationship.
The allegations emerge as Congressman Miller, who represents Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, recently received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. President Trump described Miller as "a fantastic Champion" for voters in his district. The ongoing police investigation and the legal proceedings regarding the custody arrangement are expected to continue as both parties present their cases. The outcome of these proceedings could have significant implications for Congressman Miller’s public and political standing. The case highlights the complexities of personal disputes involving public figures, especially when they intersect with ongoing political campaigns and family matters.
