A Florida court has granted Kai Trump, the 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump, a three-year restraining order against Gabriel Garza Jr., 26, following allegations of repeated stalking in South Florida. The ruling, issued after a May 14 hearing, prohibits Garza from various forms of contact and approaching within 500 feet of Ms. Trump’s residence, workplace, and other designated locations, including the University of Miami, where she plans to attend college.
The legal proceedings began in April when Ms. Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, filed a petition in Florida. During a court hearing, she reportedly described Garza as a homeless man who had been living out of his car in the Jupiter and Palm Beach County areas. A temporary restraining order was initially approved before being extended by a judge last week, and it will now remain active until May 2027. Under the terms of the order, Garza is expressly forbidden from stalking, cyberstalking, or committing any criminal act that could result in physical harm or death against Kai Trump.
This incident marks the second significant stalking-related event involving Ms. Trump within the past year. In June 2025, another individual, Anthony Thomas Reyes, allegedly scaled the walls of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate while reportedly seeking to meet Kai Trump and discuss "the gospel" with President Trump. At the time of that incident, President Trump was in Washington, D.C., and Kai Trump was reportedly vacationing in the Bahamas.
Kai Trump has gained increasing public recognition in recent years, particularly through her prominent appearances during President Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. She frequently attended rallies and political events, and she has cultivated a significant online following by sharing personal moments with her grandfather and offering glimpses into the Trump family's life, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The news of the restraining order also comes amidst other personal challenges for the Trump family. Ms. Trump’s mother, Vanessa Trump, recently disclosed her diagnosis with breast cancer and has undergone medical procedures as part of her treatment plan. Despite these family stresses, Kai Trump recently celebrated her high school graduation and publicly announced her commitment to attend the University of Miami. In a social media post dedicated to her mother, Kai Trump referred to Vanessa as "the strongest person I know."
Meanwhile, the broader Trump family continues to be a subject of public interest. Donald Trump Jr. recently married Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas, with reports suggesting that an additional wedding celebration may be held at the White House to allow President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to attend. The legal protections granted to Kai Trump underscore the unique security considerations faced by members of politically prominent families.
