Washington, D.C. – Sean Hudson, the Washington Nationals’ Director of Community Relations, is at the center of a controversy following an undercover investigation by O'Keefe Media Group (OMG). The investigation, released on May 26, 2026, purports to show Hudson making candid statements on hidden camera about religious discrimination against a team player, extensive fan surveillance practices, and his personal political beliefs, including an affinity for communist ideology. Hudson has since denied the allegations.
"If you’re a sports fan, and we pss you off, where else are you gonna go? Are you gonna drive past us from Virginia to go to Baltimore? … either way, I don’t give a sht." — Sean Hudson, Washington Nationals Director of Community Relations
The investigation primarily focuses on comments Hudson allegedly made regarding Trevor Williams, a starting pitcher for the Nationals and a self-described devout Catholic. According to the footage, Hudson acknowledged that Williams had been "sidelined" from the team's social media operations due to his public objections to an incident involving the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. That year, the Dodgers invited the drag group known as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to perform at a Pride Night event, drawing national backlash after members donned nun habits and incorporated a crucifix into an on-field performance.
Williams had publicly voiced his disapproval of the Dodgers' decision. In a 2025 conversation with Bishop Robert Barron, he articulated his stance, stating, “Baseball stadiums should be a place where everyone feels welcomed, like 100%. We should all feel welcomed there. But that was clearly against one certain religion. If you don’t draw the line in the sand, who’s gonna do it?” Hudson, in the undercover recording, recounted Williams' social media criticism, saying the pitcher went on social media, “‘this is wrong, this is my religion, you all are mocking it.’” Hudson then allegedly stated that because Williams spoke out, “we don’t use him” in the team’s social media campaigns.
Beyond the allegations of religious discrimination, the OMG investigation also revealed claims of extensive fan surveillance operations at Nationals Park. Hudson allegedly described a system where a team member is responsible for gathering detailed information about attendees. He stated, “If you ever come to a Nats game, there is someone on our team who’s responsible for figuring out everything about you, given your purchasing habits, what teams you come to when the Nats play, like what teams you come, and assigning you into a bucket of people and then catering content to you.” He further claimed that fans who accept cookies on the stadium’s digital platforms are unknowingly providing access to a significant amount of their online activity, asserting, “We’re getting your, a plethora of your Google history.”
The undercover footage also captured Hudson discussing his political worldview. He identified himself as “very far-left leaning” and indicated he displays a “join the Communist Party” poster in his home kitchen. Hudson reportedly expressed a desire to integrate this ideology into the sport, hypothetically suggesting a scenario where each home run triggers a mandatory $100 donation, describing it as “communism, you know what I mean, that’s redistributing someone’s wealth.” He added, “I hope we get there.” When questioned about the potential for alienating the fan base with such views or practices, Hudson reportedly dismissed the concern, stating, “If you’re a sports fan, and we pss you off, where else are you gonna go? Are you gonna drive past us from Virginia to go to Baltimore? … either way, I don’t give a sht.”
Additionally, Hudson allegedly disclosed that certain internal Nationals meetings are exclusive to employees who identify as LGBTQ+. He reportedly stated, “If you don’t identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ population, you shouldn’t be at this specific meeting.”
Following the release of the report, Alex Stein, guest-hosting OMG’s program "On The Inside," directly confronted Hudson about the recorded statements. Hudson denied the allegations regarding Williams, stating, “That doesn’t sound like something I would say.” He also refuted the fan surveillance claims, asserting, “no, that’s not possible for us.” O’Keefe Media Group reported that Hudson altered his Instagram profile photo and biography after the story broke. The Washington Nationals organization has not yet issued a public statement regarding the claims made in the investigation.
