Federal authorities have detained a Cuban national, Carlos Antonio Lloga Dominguez, who is reportedly connected to an organization that helped arrange a trip to Cuba earlier this year for prominent political streamer Hasan Piker. The detention has prompted Piker to express alarm, suggesting he fears potential targeting and imprisonment by the Trump administration.
Lloga Dominguez, a Cuban national who has resided in the U.S. for over a decade, was placed into removal proceedings along with his wife and son following his detention. According to the State Department, Lloga Dominguez worked for the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), an entity U.S. officials identify as Cuba’s primary influence and intelligence front operating within the United States. A Bloomberg report, cited by multiple outlets, indicates that Lloga Dominguez was part of the network that organized Piker’s March visit to Cuba.
During a recent livestream broadcast, Piker reacted to the news of Lloga Dominguez's arrest, stating, "Bro, Trump is going to put me in f***ing prison. I swear to God, what the hell is going on?" He further elaborated on his concerns, suggesting a broader political climate. "We’re about to hit f***ing 1930s Germany if we haven’t already hit it," Piker remarked during the livestream. He also criticized the Democratic Party, stating, "And these dumb f***s on the Democratic Party side are still complaining about people that the Trump administration is actively targeting. And they’re also taking advantage of that active targeting because they also don’t like us. Great."
Hasan Piker traveled to Cuba in March as part of the "Nuestra América Convoy," a delegation comprising approximately 650 participants. The trip was organized by several activist organizations, including CodePink, the ANSWER Coalition, the People’s Forum, and Progressive International. Following his return from Cuba, Piker published videos and livestream content documenting his experiences, which included appearances with senior Cuban government officials.
Earlier this year, reports from Fox News indicated that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had issued administrative subpoenas to Piker and Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CodePink. These subpoenas were reportedly part of a civil inquiry into potential sanctions compliance violations. Investigators were said to be seeking financial records, travel information, and documents related to contacts with Cuban government personnel. It is important to note that these subpoenas were described as part of a civil inquiry and do not constitute criminal charges, as reported by Trending Politics.
As of the current date, federal authorities have not announced any criminal charges against Piker, nor have they publicly stated that he is the subject of a criminal investigation directly related to his Cuba trip. Furthermore, officials have not alleged that Piker participated in or had knowledge of any intelligence activities connected to Lloga Dominguez or ICAP.
The detention of Lloga Dominguez aligns with a broader trend of increased scrutiny by the Trump administration regarding individuals and organizations accused of advancing the interests of the Cuban government within the United States. President Donald Trump has consistently maintained a firm stance on Cuba, reversing many of the previous administration's policies that sought to normalize relations. His administration has reimposed sanctions and travel restrictions, citing concerns over human rights and Cuba's support for Venezuela's socialist government.
Piker, recognized as one of the country’s most prominent left-wing online commentators, has frequently voiced criticism of President Donald Trump and Republican policies across various domains, including immigration, foreign affairs, and national security. His online platform reaches a significant audience, and his political commentary often generates considerable discussion.
As of Friday, the Trump administration had not issued a public response to Piker’s livestream comments. Similarly, Piker had not released any additional statements beyond his on-air reaction during the broadcast. The situation continues to unfold as federal investigations proceed and the Trump administration maintains its posture on foreign influence and sanctions enforcement.
